Thank you for this, Andy! I've been enjoying your newsletter very much--thinking about being an amateur, thinking about being an artist doing my very best. The La's!!! I hadn't heard them in years. When I was in high school, there was a radio station called Radio Free Hawaii. People voted for the songs that were in rotation, so you could hear some mellow Jawaiian song followed by Metallica. It was amazing. And that is also what I love about mix tapes--the variety, the surprise. Anyway, I won free tickets to see The La's from some call-in contest on Radio Free Hawaii. That was some fun. Phone connected to walls. Listening to the radio.

Radio on, landline cord stretching, calling to be #7 or whatever and win the tickets, yeah, that's a big part of what I'd call "excitement" in childhood. Radio Free Hawaii sounds pretty great to me. Miss you Janine!

Ah this is the sweetest most thoughtful thing! And there's "Sleep All Summer" too-- amazing that I'd forgotten!

And I mean I know it hadn't come out yet, but I do like that Neko Case/Eric Bachmann version of "Sleep All Summer" better, otherwise I would have mentioned that song too.
